Peab has been commissioned to build an elementary school with accompanying gyms in Älta south of Stockholm. The customer is Hemsö and the contract is worth SEK 306 million.
Stavsborg School is located in Älta in Nacka Municipality and is an elementary school that currently has room for around 600 students. Nacka Municipality runs the school system. Because Älta is growing it needs more schools and sports venues. The existing school will be torn down to be replaced by a new, larger school building which can hold 1,200 students from first to ninth grade as well as initially be used as a preschool. New gyms will also be built along with the new school.

Including the gyms the new school building will be around 14,000 m2. During construction the school will be evacuated to temporary space made available in Strandpark School.
“We are pleased that we can now begin construction on Stavsborg School. Together with Peab we will produce a sustainable school with new space for students in Nacka. The new school building will be a boom for everyone in Älta, increasing school and sports capacity and creating venues that can be used by associations and cultural activities after school,” says Robert Astrologo, Project Leader at Hemsö.
“When Älta grows more schools and sports venues are needed. This is a huge investment, our biggest school project in Nacka since the 70s. It will be a modern, flexible and space effective school that I hope will be filled with quality education during the day and cultural and sports activities during the evening and on weekends,” says Mats Gerdau, Chairman of the Municipal Board in Nacka.
The environment will be a priority during construction and the project will be certified according to Miljöbyggnad, level Silver and Gold concerning energy.
The project is a turnkey contract. Construction is planned to start in June 2021 and the school is expected to open with the start of fall term 2023.
The project will be order registered in the fourth quarter 2020.
