Peab has signed a contract to take out a loan for a total of 125 million euros from the Nordic Investment Bank (NIB) in order to contribute to the total defense of the Nordic region. The loan runs for six years and will finance Peab’s projects and investments linked to military and civil buildup in the region.
The construction and civil engineering sector plays a crucial role in countries’ total defense. With its broad operations, access to its own input goods and its local presence in the Nordic countries, NIB has identified Peab as an important player for the Nordic region's total defense. NIB has a mission to strengthen the security and defense capabilities of the Nordic and Baltic regions.
“Strengthening defense infrastructure is a shared priority across the Nordic-Baltic region. By supporting Peab’s delivery capacity, NIB is helping to ensure that critical infrastructure can be built and maintained in the current challenging geopolitical environment,” says Jeanette Vitasp, NIB Vice-President, Head of Lending.
“Peab’s operations are locally anchored across Sweden, Norway, Finland and Denmark, with more than 13,000 employees and ownership of strategically important assets such as gravel and rock quarries, concrete plants, asphalt plants, prefabrication factories and equipment depots. This gives us a strong and important role in total defense, as a contractor to both the defense sector and other critical societal actors, in both peacetime and times of crisis. The loan from NIB is a recognition of this role and strengthens the work to enhance the robustness and resilience of the Nordic countries. We are very proud of this trust,” says Jesper Göransson, President and CEO of Peab.
The loan runs between the years 2026-2031. The settlement day is June 29, 2026.
