Peab prepares for the new Coastal Quay in Gothenburg Energy Port

Peab has been commissioned to carry out the first part of the production phase of the project Coastal Quay 2.0 in the Energy Port in Gothenburg. The customer is the Göteborgs Hamn AB and the contract is worth SEK 400 million.

Coastal Quay 2.0 is a comprehensive reinvestment to stabilize the ground and replace an existing dock that has reached the end of its technical life. It entails the construction of approximately 300 meters of new quay as well as a new process layout and equipment. The modernization creates the fundament for the transition to renewable energy sources and strengthens the port's long-term goal of becoming the Nordic region's leading hub for future energy flows.

The project includes ground stabilization measures as part of the extensive modernization of one of the port's most important quays. The project also includes geotechnical improvements and new foundations in preparation for future quay construction.

"I’m both proud and pleased with the trust the Port of Gothenburg has placed in Peab. Thanks to our close collaboration from the feasibility study to production, we’ve been able to develop sustainable and robust solutions for one of the country's most important quays. It's exciting to take the next step in such a technologically advanced project," says Ioannis Strantzalis, Region Manager Peab.

During the reconstruction, ships will continue to be able to call at the quay, albeit to a limited extent.

"We’re pleased that we have come this far in our important work to stabilize the ground and produce a new quay that meets our technical and functional requirements," said Erik Hallgren, Vice President Infrastructure at Göteborgs Hamn AB.

This construction contract was preceded by a so-called phase 1 agreement where Peab was contracted to work with the customer to find an optimized product with the right quality and to manage risks and uncertainties. The project is now entering phase 2, which entails signing a construction contract.

The project is a turnkey contract. Construction will start in April 2026 and final inspection is planned for the summer of 2032.

The project was order registered in the first quarter 2026.
