Peab has been commissioned to build a new surface water treatment plant at Lake Långa in Karlshamn Municipality. The customer is Karlshamn Energi Vatten AB and the contract is worth SEK 642 million.
Karlshamn will get a new state-of-the-art surface water treatment plant that in an even better way meets current requirements and will ensure the drinking water supply for the next 50 years.
"We’ve had a great dialogue and good results with Peab and other important partners during the planning period and now this excellent cooperation is moving on to the next important phase," says Peter Berglin, CEO of Karlshamns Energi Vatten AB.
The surface water treatment plant will be supplied with raw water from Lake Långa and reserve water from Mörrum River. The project will also include an intake station, which primarily entails renovating existing facilities.
"We’ve been planning the new water treatment plant since 2022. We have expertise and experience from similar projects so we feel confident now that we’re beginning to build this new water treatment plant," says Göran Wiking, Region Manager Peab.
This construction contract was preceded by a so-called phase 1 agreement where Peab was contracted to optimize the project together with the customer with the right quality and handle risks and uncertainties. The project is now entering phase 2, which entails signing a construction contract.
Construction is expected to start in the first quarter 2026 and the project is expected to be completed in October 2029.
The project will be order registered in the first quarter 2026.
